BTISNET - Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility
    The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, IGKV, Raipur offers admission to Ph.D. and Ph.D. through DBT sponsored and self-finance scheme and has different well equipped laboratories and small library to caters to the immediate needs of the students and researcher. With financial support from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India New Delhi, the project on “Creation of Bioinformatics Infrastructure facility (BIF) for the promotion of Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI) at IGKV, Raipur under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BTIsent) program” was implemented on 30th April 2007

It is extensively being used by the students, researchers and teachers of Department for thesis related research and teaching activities. Introduction to Bioinformatics has been introduction in the teaching program of M.Sc. Agriculture Biotechnology.

Major research activities
  • Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, College of Agriculture, IGKV, Raipur has contributed in Biotechnology and its related field

  • Identification and characterization of biotic and abiotic responsive transcripts in rice using cDNA mirooarray, gene expression changes of selected genes and identification of the cis-acting elements and their target transcription factore.

  • Molecular Characterization of rice, medicinal plants pathogen population,Trichoderma sp., Pseudomonas sp.

  • In-silico saturation mapping of the rice chromosomes, QTLs asscociated with biotic and abiotic stress and generation of molecular markers for wet lab validation.

  • Procurement of Trichoderma EST sequences in bulk. EST sequence analysis through bioinformatics tools and generation of molecular markers for validation and identification of a molecular marker of taxonomic importance.

  • Assessment of rice and minor millet accessions for nutritional quality traits and use of gene specific markers.

  • Standardization of high efficiency regeneration protocol for different plant species.
